The Science of Nature
The powerful antimicrobial properties of Vallentine’s Honey has been measured using the benchmark antimicrobial tests, the NPA (Non-Peroxide Activity) and TA (Total Activity). Both of these tests are phenol comparison tests. Vallentine’s Honey scored a consistent 32.8 NPA and 32.8 TA over multiple batch samples.
As well as a strong hydrogen peroxide activity, Vallentine’s Honey has additional antimicrobial components from specific plant sources, giving it an exceptionally high level of plant-derived antibacterial activity.
There are many reports in medical literature of honey being highly effective in the dressing of wounds, primarily because of its antimicrobial and osmotic properties.
Osmosis induced by the high sugar content of honey is what creates the moist environment for healing. Vallentine’s Honey serves as an effective film between a wound and dressing, which allows the dressing to be lifted off painlessly, without tearing off the recently regrown cells.
Oxygenation of the tissue is essential for the growth of new tissues. Vallentine’s Honey also increases the release of oxygen from haemoglobin in the blood.
Honey is renowned for its medicinal benefits and healing properties and is known to have incredibly antioxidant compounds which have been linked to helping reduce the risk of heart disease as it aids in dialating arteries which increase blood flow and can prevent blood clots. The powerful antioxidants in the honey also prevent the formation of damaging free radicals which are the cause of inflammation.
The anti-inflammatory action and the stimulating effect on the growth of new blood capillaries has been well observed clinically.
Another benefit of Vallentine’s Honey is that it acts as a messenger between different types of cells involved in the body’s immune response to infection.

What is raw honey?
Raw honey is the honey extracted straight from the hive after being strained from beeswax and any other particles. Honey that isn’t raw goes through processes like filtration, which further removes any impurities, and pasteurisation, which eliminates any yeast using heat so that the honey is ‘smoother’ rather than the crystalised form that is often associated with raw honey.
Is Vallentine’s Honey organic, free of preservatives or vegan?
Vallentine’s Honey is an organic product that is free from preservatives. Whilst the definition of veganism is to avoid all animal products and animal by-products, some vegans may still choose to consume honey, particularly if the honey is sourced from small, local, reputable bee farmers who prioritise the health and wellbeing of the bees over maximising honey product. While the production of honey requires the assistance of bees, it’s ultimately up to the individual and their own stance on the consumption of honey in deciding to include honey in their diet.
What is UMF and what does it stand for?
UMF stands for Unique Manuka Factor, which is the potency grading scale of manuka honey. The scale reports the concentration of MGO, DHA and leptosperin found in manuka honey, indicating its quality and purity. You can read more about UMF here.
What is MGO and why should you only purchase honey products that have this rating?
MGO, which stands for methylglyoxal, is a special naturally occurring compound. The highest concentration of MGO is found in Vallentine’s World’s Strongest Honey, which provides superior antibacterial and bacterial resistance. For example, if your manuka honey shows it has a MGO 100+ rating, it means there is at least 100mg of MGO per kilogram present.
